Szymon Grzegorz ~ Samanta & Richard Haduch

My pregnancy was entirely uncomplicated, so we were looking forward to another USG to see our boy. It was 22 hbd, and we were hoping to see his face on the 3D screen. Unfortunately it was impossible because of a low-lying placenta, and because my son was already upside-down, his face was behind the placenta. The doctor told us that I had low-lying placenta and needed to be careful, rest a lot, not to lift heavy things, no sexual intercourse and so on...  Four weeks later I was given another USG to follow up the situation.  They used transvaginal USG connected with color Doppler and they found vasa previa. My son was over 1 kilo then, so they told me that he already had a good chance to survive in case of emergency. They put me into a hospital.

I was so afraid. They told me everything about vasa previa and I knew that in case of emergency every second is so important. I couldn't go beyond the door of my ward.  Every doctor and midwife in the hospital was aware of my situation. I had USG every 2 weeks, the placenta was going up, and finally reached high of 6 cm above the opening to the birth canal, but vessels (there were 2 vessels) were still above the opening to the birth canal. Professor Czajkowski (who is one of the greatest gynecologists in Poland, and he was Director of the hospital) made a decision that C-section will be in 36 hbd. And at that time, 23.07.2008 at 09:57 am, my son Szymon Grzegorz Haduch (Simon Gregory) was born. He was 51 cm long, 3080 grams, and had an Apgar score of 9. Now he's 2 months, absolutely healthy and normal, wonderful, strong and sweet. :)  Here are some photos of us, eg. our first photo after C-section (he was already with me 2 hours after they woke me up after the operation), first day at home, and how he looks now.  :)

I hope that my story will help others to be aware of this very serious pathology and help other children to survive.  Reading all these stories on your website I feel like I was SO LUCKY, and in a very good hands. I'm so thankful to all the doctors that saved my son's life. Every single day of these 70 days in hospital I was afraid that I can start bleeding rapidly. But at the same time every doctor, every midwife were so nice there, time with them was really wonderful and it felt like home there sometimes.  Seventy days in hospital sounds scary, but it was worth it! Now I can hold my little miracle in my arms.
