I was 5 cms when I arrived at midnight and continued to go well for the next 5 or so hours, progressing to 9 cms. It was at this internal exam that the darling midwife felt something she had never felt before and called for a doctor. Off to the labor ward we went where the doctor could have a better look up on a table. Here was where the Vasa Previa was diagnosed. That was when things changed into the emergency I now understand a little more. I often wonder if I had been in the labor ward whether or not they would have broken my waters a lot earlier with potentially disastrous consequences. So I had an emergency ceaser under general anesthetic, I cannot commend the people at RPA highly enough for the way they handled my case...it was just so quick! From diagnosis to Molly being born took about 15 mins....I'm pretty sure that was the time they told me...it's all a bit hazy. Her Apgars were quite low and she was in ICU for three hours but then was brought to me after this and we went on to enjoy our new bub. I began to realize that we had a rare case when the midwife came to visit and told me that photos of my placenta were being marveled at by the staff. It was only until a couple of months later when I started to do some research that I can understand how lucky we are. Molly is our little angel. ~ Kate and Steve |
