Kaylee Marjorie  - Erin and Jason Mathy

I was about 17 weeks pregnant with my second child when I was diagnosed with placenta previa.  I took it easy until my next ultrasound which determined that the previa had self corrected.  I had another ultrasound after that because of slow fetal growth.  Kaylee was determined to be small for her gestational age.  I was put on modified bed rest for blood pressure problems at 35 weeks.

At 37 weeks I went in for a non stress test and they decided to induce labor because of "hovering" blood pressure.  During the induction Kaylee's heart rate was dropping.  They broke my water to flush some fluid around the baby to cushion her.  When they broke my water it was all blood.  I then went in for an emergency C section and Kaylee arrived at 5 lbs 3 oz.  She was immediately placed on a ventilator and given a blood transfusion and transferred to a NICU 75 miles from us.

Kaylee spent 3 weeks in the NICU.  I only learned that it was vasa previa at my six week checkup.  She is now home and a happy, healthy, 20 month old.
